William H. Sheldon, THE authority on U.S. Large Cents during the 1940's through the `70's, wrote in his definitive work on large cents this advice:  "Never invest more in a large cent than you can afford to lose".  This is good advice for any collecting pursuit  at any income level, and one I have strived to live by.  My collections have little interest to wealthy collectors, but there are lots of ordinary folks like me out there who like to collect things!
